English
Intention (Rationale)
-
The English curriculum is designed to recognise that when students join us, they are often disengaged and disenchanted with learning. The fundamental purpose of our English curriculum is to re-engage students in their education and inspire them to learn.
-
Our teaching is an essential element in providing inclusiveness for all students, so that they can become more literate.
-
We recognise that every student is a unique individual and with this in mind, all our students receive an individualised approach to English according to their ability and need.
Implementation (Rationale)
-
To provide a safe environment where every student can learn through success and failure without losing confidence and building resilience.
-
A personalised approach that highlights accurate baselines with effective interventions in areas that need building, ensuring success along the way.
-
The staff team support students SEMH needs to ensure access to learning as well as building their personal development skills.
-
We use a blended approach to learning, engaging to students with motivating teaching and solution focused pathways so they can reach their targets.
Impact (Outcome)
-
Individualised learning is measured by diagnostic BKSB tests on a regular basis and allows students to see their progress.
-
We continue monitoring their levels and pupil progress is checked at the start of a new term so we can track their progress and identify gaps in their knowledge.
-
All our students in Key Stage 4 are entered for formal examinations. It is our aim that all Key Stage 4 will leave VTC with a qualification in English that will take them to the next stage of their life-long learning
